Autiotalo nro 3 / Abandoned House #3 [FIN/ENG]

In the summer of 2017 we set out a cycling trip with our photography gear. It was, for once, a sunny and warm day. We planned out a route through nearby terrains, hoping to find something worth exploring. After all, you never know what you'll find. Our next location, abandoned house #3, was discovered by accident and we nearly rode past it. Luckily, bicycles don't go fast enough for us to completely ignore our surroundings. So the house caught our eyes and we quickly stopped to wonder how on earth can there be a house. The road that had led to the house had been overgrown by vegetation and someone cutting down the trees had apparently crushed the mailbox. The most surprising fact was that none of us had previously been aware of the existence of this particular house. So we got off our bikes and set out to take pictures.

As we explored the area around the house, we noticed that vandals had already been there before us. There were clear signs of an attempted break-in on the front door, but it looked like the attempt had been unsuccessful. The door was locked, so we explored the yard and took pictures of the exterior. A curious find on the other side of the house was a door that led to a sauna. We couldn't help but to wonder if the residents had accessed the sauna from the outside, with no entry from the inside.

The yard was littered with all kinds of items and it looked like it had been used as a dump of sorts. We were cautious as we explored, as the ground looked like it could have holes, an old well, an underground cellar or something of the sort. We certainly wanted to avoid falling into a deeper pit and hurting ourselves.

A garden gnome had been left in the front yard. As the years had gone by, the vegetation had almost completely covered it, but as you look closely, you'll see it guarding the house.

We later discovered that the house had been abandoned for nearly 10 years. Apparently the resident(s) had passed away and possible relatives had left the house to fend for itself. Looking through the windows we could see that someone had started to empty the house but did not complete the task. Maybe no one cared enough. A car still remained in a very rundown shed, with tools scattered on the floor. It looked like someone had just recently been working on the car and then decided to pop out, only to never return. Next to the shed was an old doghouse. This location has been one of the greatest and surprising abandoned houses we have found. We can only hope that vandals won't destroy it, as it contains the history of someone.
