Vanhainkoti / The Nursing Home [FIN/ENG]

Aatsingin vanhainkoti rakennettiin kunnalliskodin raunioille. Kunnalliskoti oli rakennettu v.1927, mutta se paloi v.1929. Vanhainkodin rakennustyöt aloitettiin toukokuussa 1948, se valmistui v.1949. Kellarikerros rakennettiin v.1956. Vanhainkodin rakennukset on suunnitellut arkkitehti Heimo Vesikari.

The Aatsinki nursing home was built on the ruins of the old municipal home. It had been built in 1927, but it burned down in 1929. The construction work for the nursing home began in May 1948 and was finished in 1949. The basement was built in 1956. The buildings of the nursing home have been designed by architect Heimo Vesikari.

Vanhainkodin pihapiirissä on vanhainkotirakennus, jossa on myös siipirakennus. Karjatupa, navetta, sikala/kanala -rakennus ja v.1974 valmistunut rivitalo. Vanhainkotirakennuksen katteena on vihreä aaltopelti ja julkisivu valkoiseksi rapattu. Betonirunkoinen ja siinä on kylmä ullakko ja kellarikerros.

In the courtyard, there's the main nursing home building with an additional wing. Alongside them, there is a cattle hut, a barn, a piggery/a henhouse and a terraced house built in 1974. Green corrugated iron acts as the roofing of the nursing home, with its walls plastered white. It's concrete-framed, with a cold attic and a basement floor.

Siipirakennusosassa sijaitsi ruokala ja johtajan asunto. Karjatuvassa oli karjanhoitajan asunto. Navettarakennus on toiminut myöhemmin lampolona.

Vanhainkodissa jokainen kynnelle kykenevä otti osaa talon töihin. Maataloudessa pyrittiin omavaraisuuteen. Tunnelma oli kotoinen ja luonnonläheinen. Maatila lakkautettiin ja pellot paketoitiin v.1972. Rakennusta remontoitiin v.1977. Vanhainkoti muutti Sallan kirkolle Hopeaharjuun v.1993.

Autioksi jääneestä vanhainkodista tuli paikallisten nuorten suosima paikka, jossa kävivät seikkailemassa ja juomassa alkoholia. Rakennus veti puoleensa myös narkomaaneja (liiman ja/tai liuottimien imppaajia), joita nuoriso oli joskus retkillään nähnyt. Sallan poliisi sulki paikan lopullisesti paikan jossain vaiheessa v.1993 jälkeen. Nykyään kiinteistöt omistaa ilmeisesti yksityishenkilö.  

In the additional wing, there was a canteen and a manager's apartment. In the cattle hut there was a livestock housing for the farmhand. The barn building has later functioned as a sheep barn. Every resident of the nursing home capable of helping with the farm work took part in the chores. Self-sufficiency was the main goal. The overall atmosphere was homely and close to nature. The farm was shut down and the fields were packaged in 1972. The main building was renovated in 1977. The nursing home was moved to Hopeaharju in Salla in 1993.

The nursing home, now abandoned, became a popular spot for local youngsters to explore and drink alcohol. It also attracted addicts (mainly sniffers of glue and other solvents), which the kids have seen on their escapades. The place was shut down for good by the Salla police at some point after 1993. Nowadays the properties are owned by a private individual.

What most likely was the main entrance. It's closed with a chain, but the windows have been smashed so badly that you can enter through them.

Jonkinlainen salitila. Mihin tilaa on käytetty, sitä voi vain arvailla.

A hall space of some kind. You can only guess what it's been used for in the past.

A lot of stuff had been left behind in the attic.

Huoneissa ei ollut enää muuta jäljellä, kuin verhot ikkunoissa. Maalit seinissä ja katossa olivat alkaneet jo rapistua ja tapetteja oli revitty seinistä.

There was nothing much left in the rooms, other than the curtains. The paint on the walls and the ceiling had begun to crack and wallpapers had been torn off from the walls.

Tämä keittiö on varmaankin kuulunut johtajan asuntoon.

This kitchen has probably been a part of the manager's apartment.

On the other end of the downstairs, a pair of locked doors.

Rappuset kellarikerrokseen. Kellarin jätimme tutkimatta, sieltä tulleen erittäin voimakkaan kostean, homeisenhajun takia.

Rakennuksen sisäpuoli on täynnä kaikenlaisia yksityiskohtia siitäkin huolimatta, että sisätilat on jossain vaiheessa siivottu. Myös jonkinlaista ilkivaltaa on  tehty vuosien mittaan, mikä on ikävää, koska rakennus on hieno ja sijaitsee kauniilla paikalla.

On the inside, the building is filled with different details, despite the fact that they have been cleared out at some point. Some vandalism has also taken place over the years, which is unfortunate, since the building is quite gorgeous and is situated in a beautiful spot.

Rakennuksen ulkopuoli on kohtalaisen hyvin säilynyt. Mutta muutamissa kohdissa on näkyvissä halkeamia rappauksessa.

On the outside, the building is in a relatively good shape. In some points cracks in the plastering can be found.

Myös parvekkeet ovat jo parhaat päivänsä ohittaneet.

The balconies had also seen better days.

Pihapiirissä olevassa v. 1974 rakennetussa rivitalossa oli henkilökunnan asunnot ja myöhemmin siihen majoitettiin marjanpoimijoita. Ikkunat peitetty ja ovet tukittu, joten sisäänpääsy ei ollut mahdollista.

In the terraced house, built in 1974, were apartments for the staff and the house later on functioned as a accommodation for berry pickers. With the windows covered and doors blocked, entering the building was a no go.

Aatsinki, kaukana itäisessä Lapissa lähellä Venäjän rajaa. Kauniiden maisemien keskellä osittain jo kasvillisuuden peittämät rakennukset kertovat menneistä ajoista. Syrjäinen sijaintikaan ei ole pelastanut ilkivallalta, mikä on ikävää. Rakennuksia ei ehkä enää koskaan oteta käyttöön ja vähitellen ne rapistuvat käyttökelvottomiksi. Puut ja pensaat valtaavat pihat ja rakennukset unohtuvat. 

Käyntipäivänä oli melkein +30C astetta hellettä, aurinko paistoi. Paljon tuli otettua valokuvia ja paikka jäi mieleen erittäin hyvin. Urbex-harrastajalle paikka on todella mielenkiintoinen ja netistä löytyvät tiedot antavat paikalle historian.

Aatsinki, located in eastern Lapland near the Russian border. In the middle of a beautiful landscape, buildings partly taken over by plantation tell stories about the past. Even the remote location of the area hasn't protected the buildings from vandalism, which is unfortunate. The buildings might never be used again and in time, they will go to rack and ruin beyond use. Trees and bushes will take over the yards and the buildings will be forgotten. On the day of our visit, there was almost +30 degrees Celcius and the sun was shining. We took a lot of pictures and the visit left a permanent memory in our minds. For an urban explorer, the location is very interesting and information found online give the place a history.
