Peuran saha / The Peura Sawmill [FIN/ENG]
Heikki Peura perusti v.1896 sahalaitoksen Suonenjoen Iisvedelle. Peuran kuoltua H.Peura Oy siirtyi Rauma-Repolan haltuun. Iisveden tehdaslaitoksien toiminta päättyi v. 1983. Iisveden sahan rakennukset paloivat v. 1987, mutta alueella on vielä jäljellä v. 1912 valmistunut punatiilinen rullatehdasrakennus, siihen liittyvä 1920-luvulla valmistunut höyrykone- ja kattilarakennus savupiippuineen sekä puutavaran kuivausrakennus.
In 1896 Heikki Peura founded a sawmill in Iisvesi, Suonenjoki. After his death, the H. Peura OY was taken over by Rauma-Repola. The factories in Iisvesi were shut down in 1983. The buildings caught fire in 1987, but the few remaining (as seen in the pictures below) still stand.
Saavuimme paikalle marraskuisena päivänä, onneksi ei satanut vettä, vaan kerrankin aurinko paistoi. Toiveissa olikin saada hyviä kuvia jäljellä olevista rakennuksista. Näkymät paikalle saavuttuamme olivat karut, aika ja tulipalo olivat jo tehneet oman osansa rakennuksiin. Myös jonkinlaisia ilkivallan merkkejä oli näkyvissä. Maalauksia ja tekstejä seinissä ja ympäri aluetta löytyi muovikuulia. Mutta kaikesta huolimatta, seisoi tehtaan savupiippu vielä ehjänä maamerkkinä ihmisille muistuttaen paikan historiasta. Sisätilat olivat joltain kohdilta jo hieman romahtaneet, mahtaviin betonipalkkeihin oli jo tullut repeämiä. Parhaiten on säilynyt rakennus, joka on todennäköisesti ollut puutavaran kuivausrakennus. Kävellessämme pitkin ja poikin aluetta, mieleen tuli paljon kysymyksiä. Millaisia olivat rakennukset, ketä olivat ne ihmiset, jotka työskentelivät täällä, millaisia tarinoita nuo vanhat rakennukset ja rauniot pitävät sisällään. Ja miten kauan vielä tuo uljas savupiippu seisoo tuulessa ja tuiskussa, muistuttaen menneistä ajoista.
We arrived at the old factory site on a rare sunny November day and fortunately for us, it wasn't raining. We were hoping to get some good pictures of the remaining buildings which hadn't been destroyed by the fire. The overall look of the place was very bleak, as both time and the fire had played their parts in the appearance of the buildings. Several vandals had tagged the site as well, as we found many spray-painted pictures and texts on the walls and some plastic bullets were lying around all over the area. Despite everything, the majestic chimney still stood as a landmark, reminding people of the history of the site. Inside, some of the structures had already begun to break down. The building where the wood was dried was probably the best preserved. As we explored the area, a lot of questions rose to the top of our minds. What were the buildings like before the fire destroyed them? Who were the people who had worked here? What kind of stories do those old buildings and ruins hold within them? And how long would the chimney still stand in the wind and the rain, reminding us of the past?
